just kill me now

I haven't felt myself in a couple of days. Even a 30 minute bike ride with my adorable Goldman crush beside me last night at the gym didn't help. For some reason I'm very sad and depressed. I thought today might be the day I pull out of it, but last night my friend in Afghanistan sent me an early edition of the WSJ, highlighting this article from the Style and Travel section. Contain your retching please until finished.

Proud Desire: Author's Romance With Hermès      By CHRISTINA BINKLEY·

Author Barbara Taylor Bradford says her collection of Hermès bags tells the story of her marriage."We went to Paris on a wintry day," begins Barbara Taylor Bradford. This is not a story about one of her romantic heroines but about a love of her own: her first Hermès bag. Some people collect stamps, rocks, fountain pens or antique cars. Mrs. Bradford, a bestselling novelist, has 24 Hermès handbags in her closet. All bought by her husband of 48 years, the bags represent significant events and intimate celebrations. Her oldest is a black leather Kelly dating from her 1964 honeymoon in Paris. The most recent is an orange Kelly purchased for Christmas 2010 in New York by that same husband, film producer Bob Bradford. "All of my handbags tell the story of my marriage," she says. If there is just one sour note in the tale, it is the fact that there is one Hermès bag that the Bradfords haven't managed to obtain: a Birkin. Novelist Barbara Taylor Bradford says her 24 Hermes bags tell the story of her marriage. Each one represents a chapter, such as the completion of a book (Evelyne bag) or a birthday (green crocodile Kelly bag). For many collectors, the difficulties of obtaining some Hermès bags have only added to their mystique. Hermès bags are a particularly feminine obsession, but purchasing one offers the sense of achievement and excellence sought by many other connoisseurs.

A simple Kelly bag in fine broad-grain leather can cost $8,300, and prices can easily rise to five or even six figures, depending on the design, size and materials. Kelly and Birkin bags, produced in limited quantities by artisans in France, have their own mythology. The Kelly is the most complex Hermès bag to make, and one can take several days to produce, the company says. Shoppers can't get Birkins just by walking into a store. The company says a shopper might get a Birkin by requesting it, giving contact information, and waiting until one is available. (There is not a formal waiting list, as is popularly believed.) Some people, however, spend years waiting, while others seem to get Birkins quickly. The company is aware that it has many "passionate" clients, says spokesman Peter Malachi. Hermès doesn't track its collectors, though individual Hermès boutiques may offer good clients an inside track on the latest bag or another item. The company's scarves, made in Lyons, France, in constantly renewed patterns, may be one of fashion's most collected products. Scarves, which start at around $325, are more affordable than bags (Bunny's note: LIARS).  But Hermès says it doesn't manufacture products specifically for collectors. Mrs. Bradford's collection began because she loved actress Grace Kelly, who carried a bag that was designed by Hermès in the 1930s and became known as the Kelly bag in the 1950s. "I always thought Grace Kelly was so beautiful and so elegant," says Mrs. Bradford, who carries her bags with an Hermès scarf tied on the handle, "the French way." Her husband bought each bag (often with her collaboration) to celebrate something, such as the completion of a novel (an Evelyne) or a birthday (a green crocodile bag purchased in Cannes).

"She's a very classy dame," Mr. Bradford says. "I love her to be elegant." But Mrs. Bradford's collection stands out because she has been acquiring them for so long. Collections dating from before the 1980s "are few and far between," says Tina Craig, co-founder of the BagSnob blog. Mrs. Bradford's closet is just off her mauve-and-pale-blue bedroom, whose walls are covered in silk. On the bed, a pillow wishes, "Sweet Dreams" under a sweep of silk drapery. Her 16-year-old Bichon Frisé, Chammi, pads around the bedroom. Mrs. Bradford has four honorary doctorates, and in 2007 was appointed to the Order of the British Empire. That earned her an audience with Queen Elizabeth as well as her own family crest, which is displayed in her robin-egg-blue sitting room. Her 27 books have sold more than 85 million copies globally. But none of that helped when she hoped to celebrate submitting her 2009 novel "Breaking the Rules" with a Birkin. An Hermès salesperson said she would have to put her name on a waiting list, says Mr. Bradford, who was upset about it. "After all these years?" he asks. The Bradfords failed to snare a Birkin again last year in Paris, when they spied a blue one in the window of the Ave. Georges Cinq store. "The woman came back and said it's not for sale," says Mrs. Bradford.

Her husband bought her a scarf and bracelet instead (Bunny's note: How fucking tragic.). Hermès says that the bag was part of a window decoration made with items that were never for sale. Mrs. Bradford's first Hermès bag, purchased in Paris in 1964 on her honeymoon. Mrs. Bradford doesn't want to put down her name for a bag. "That's so shallow to put yourself on a list for a bag," she says, adding that it isn't in her character to become so obsessed with a handbag. She does own a fake Birkin, given to her by a friend. "I never use it, but I can't get rid of it because she's in my house all the time," she says. "I feel like it's stealing intellectual property." It isn't clear what Mrs. Bradford would need to do to obtain a Birkin. Michael Tonello, whose memoir "Bringing Home the Birkin" detailed his methods for buying and reselling the bags, says Hermès doles out Birkins based on how much people spend in their stores. "There's plenty of bags in the back room," he says.

Hermès says the bag shortage is real, adding that it can't make enough to meet the demand. "I'm aware that you've read that book," Mr. Malachi said when asked. Last month, Mrs. Bradford submitted the manuscript for her 28th novel, "Secrets From the Past." The book will be published early next year, but she says that for now, she has lost interest in getting a Birkin. Her husband agrees. "I'm not going to go on that list. I'm too good a customer," he says. - WSJ

Well if anything would further my depression it would be that Barbara Taylor Bradford doesn't have a Birkin. I don't even know how she sleeps at night. Ugh. I hate her. I hate everything about her. I hate her stupid books. I hate her stupid apartment and all of her orange boxes. But I swear to god, that orange Kelly would make me give up my first born.

and I'm back to drinking and cussing...you're welcome america

I hope everyone had a chance to break in their new bonnets and if you did pull out your seersucker (or Lilly dress), that it's back in your closet to await Memorial Day. I'm seriously not even playing on this. If I see your white pants or your Jack Rogers for at least another month, I will openly mock you. Do you hear me Filthy McNasty? Not only wearing Jacks, but white Jacks. Have you no shame?

Well now that Easter/Passover/Lent is over, life is slowly returning back to normal. My "lenten objectives" lasted a bit longer then the ill fated new year's resolutions, but in the end I broke almost all of them.  I ate red meat once ("the dump" has the best hamburgers in town). I really tried hard to lay off the swearing and hateful comments and believe I did well. My sunkist addiction has switched to diet sunkist and has been rapidly removed from my life....the same way Baby Boy has. But in the end, it was the booze that did me in (isn't it always). I think I made it 48 hours before I forgot about lent and started drinking the sweet nectar of the gods....and it was delicious.

I felt that I needed a reward for all of my good deeds and niceness of the holiday, so when I received new arrival emails from Kate Spade and Hermes this morning, I knew it was going to be a good day.  Um...well...hold that thought. I don't know if its the impending decline of the Euro or if France is scared it will end up like Greece, but Hermes has raised the prices of their scarves. RAISED....by $40. I know it doesn't seem like a lot, but when the scarves were astronomically priced to begin with, this slight raise has now pushed them over the $400 mark and I fear has pushed them out of my life. Maybe not forever, but at least until that Russian billionaire gives me a call. In the mean time let's stare, drool, and all give a collective sigh of the new spring time goodies.

Kate also suprised me and had this jelly goodie.  I think this might be my easter present to myself! LOVE.

viva la france

Take the time to read this quick article from The New Yorker about French women. As you know, I wish I was a French woman. It completely made my day and will now refer to my upper arms as "ohio". I also need to make a visit and pick up a Chanel bag and a new Hermes.

fashionable friday

It's doom and gloom outside, so sit back, look at some pretty and have your 401k company on speed dial - because I'm about to blow your minds and your wallets.

First up. the Christian Dior show. Ladies and gentlemen, THIS is how you do a peplum that everyone can wear. From the great belt to the bedazzled top, the dress is amazing. I loved everything in this show, but pulled my favorites for you to peruse.

Now to the good stuff.  Pierre Hardy, not to be confused with Ed Hardy or Tom Hardy, is the Hermes jeweler...and we LOVE him. Good ole Pierre was obviously bored one day and decided that spending $25K for a crocodile birkin was for peasants. So he created a jeweled version of the iconic Kelly bag made from 11,000 diamonds...that's basically big enough to hold your cell phone. Of course, I want/need this bag immediately. Sales are confined to 12 bags and with the price tag of 1.5 million euros each (that's like a bijillion american bucks), I'm not sure who will actually purchase them. This is one of the occasions when I wish I was famous and could wear this bag (complete with body guard) to some awards show or to lunch at the Ivy. Just another occasion when I wish the dollar was stronger than the euro. Le sigh...

XOXO,
Bisous

dresses and scarves = life

Yes, I probably should have done an Oscars recap on Monday but the people I wanted to win won, and the dresses were just okay.  I hated Viola Davis' green Vera Wang. It did not fit her right through the top and the dress was too stiff, though the color was amazing.  The one dress I did love was Gwyneth Paltrow's. You can hate all you want, but Tom Ford is classic and perfect and amazing. The only thing I wish she did have on was some sort of stud earring. Perhaps a sapphire or emerald. Thoughts on your best/worst dressed? And your thoughts on a Bunny/Jean Dujardin french-Parisian love affair? I'm kind of liking the idea....and I could eat baguettes all day long.

The Vanity Fair after party had better dresses than the Oscars, but I thought that Cameron Diaz (gag) killed it in the orange Victoria Beckham dress. KILLED IT. The color is perfect, the dress is perfect, and Cameron with her mouth shut is perfect...well she's just okay. God, why am I a redhead who cannot wear orange!

After dropping the Great Hambino, aka my brother, off at the airport for his 6 month Australian walk about, I decided to do some premature 'spring' cleaning. Anything that hasn't been worn in over a year was getting tossed. What I found in that closet was not pretty...stuff I hadn't worn in a good 6 years, things I had completely forgotten about and this was after I moved this summer and purged a boatload of stuff. But the big thing that came out of this cleanse - the realization that my scarf collection is OUT-OF-CONTROL. This is more than just the silk collection in which I found two scarves I have only worn once and completely had forgotten about. It's more the cotton, drapey scarves. You know its bad when the scarves try and break out of the closet, which is what prompted the impromptu cleaning. I have them on a hook on the closet door. After coming home from the airport, I found the over-the-door hook broken and the scarves everywhere.  What should be noted is that none of said scarves actually made it INTO the dump bag. But now I am trying to find a new way to store them so I won't forget about my babies. Especailly this Hermes baby who arrived on my birthday from a generous benefactor...

Ohhhh, new girl, if you only knew.

now I know what to do with all that fruit in my fridge...

In honor of the Hermes Kelly Picnic Bag (which I should have had June 1 because it is the PERFECT summer bag), Hermes has done a delicious spread to honor the iconic Kelly bag (which was named after Grace Kelly).  All the items used are what you would find in....a picnic basket. How adorable, right?

weiner pulls out

well....I guess I say "I told you so", but I was a week late.  Wow...Rep. Anthony Weiner has resigned and has left nothing but a trail of bad puns on his name and a social media awakening for congress.  While I have a twitter (which my grandmother lovingly refers to as a 'tweetsie'), I actually have no idea how to use it.  I've never understood the hashtags, and what a re-tweet is.  The only thing on twitter I actually read is BaltimoreJosh (Josh Charles) and Lilmisspeedlet (my lovely and adorable friend Peed, who posts some funny stuff!). However, I'm interested to see how Congress uses this lesson going forward.  I wouldn't put money on it, but by September we see some new congressional scandal.

Hell week is almost officially over and it cannot end soon enough.  All of my stuff went swimmingly, thankyouverymuch, but I'm ready for some R and R...or packing and moving.

Thanks for your patience this week!

Oh and PS...I don't know what happened, but after I posted the picture of the amazing purple Hermes, it disappeared off Hermes' website.  If one of them doesn't arrive in the mail to me asap, there is going to be trouble.

D.I.E.

I'm interrupting your life for this....Can I just have a moment to die?  I know I've been on a Hermes kick lately, (and really, when am I not) but the jerks that they are sent an email today for Father's Day and I noticed a new scarf....

OHMYGODYALL.  It's like a discotheque, a laser show, and class all in the same scarf. And it's even got a little picture of the Kelly bag! How fucking amazing would I look in this scarf?  DEAD.  Forget the Twilly I promised myself if I made it through board week...I want the full 90!

Okay...you can go back to your lives now...

XOXO,
my neck needs something pretty

c.r.e.a.m

Cash rules everything around me.

I've always joked about how I wished my parents were more over achievers.  This comment comes when I see someone with a new Mercedes or when I spend time at friend's beach houses.  Truly, it's always materialistic. I've been very blessed and have wanted for nothing....except for that Mercedes. But I digress....

Today I spent a lovely day in the country.  Back in horse country, Virginia, it was a very hot and sunny day.  I met the dutchess and her adorable and very tolerable hubby at the barn.  We then headed into Upperville to watch a horse jumping show.  It's called Upperville because everyone that lives there is on uppers. True story. The smell of money is in the air. No longer just old, rich, white guys...but young, rich, white guys as well.  And lord, the gays.  Also, a plethora of overly skinny, overly plastic, blond trophy wives. To my left was a very old Robert Duvall.  To my right, a beautiful orange ostrich Hermes birkin.  I have never felt so inadequate or poor in my life. Yes, I joke around about my Hermes obsession, and sometimes I say that I would give away my first born for the elusive ostrich birkin, but it is mostly joking. Mostly.  But seriously...look at this picture and tell me you wouldn't kill for this bag:
yes...it's real.

After the lady with the birkin left, the day was pretty much over. All of a sudden, the winds picked up, it dropped 25 degrees and a storm came through like you have never seen.  Trees down all over the place; stone fences which have been standing for years, destroyed.

But it should be noted that I sat outside in full on sun for 3 hours and no part of me is burned! Hallelujah.

Some more photos from the outing:
don't you just love Chaddy's little hat?  So fashionable.

That's Robert Duvall.  A hot, sweaty, and old Robert Duvall.

Nothing but miles and miles of this.

Bunny
